Sifting 1g of Matcha

Step 1: Sift 1g of ceremonial-grade matcha green tea into a tea bowl to prevent clumping. 1g of matcha is approximately equal to ½ teaspoon.

Adding a Small Amount of Warm Water

Step 2: Pour about 2 oz of near-boiling water over the dry matcha. Gently mix and let the mixture cool slightly to form a “koicha” (thick tea) base.

Whisking Until Smooth & Frothy

Step 3: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen), vigorously stir in a loose “W” or “M” motion until the matcha becomes frothy and creamy.

Diluting with Warm Water & Enjoying!

Step 4: Some prefer it thick and rich (koicha), while others like it light and thin (usucha). Adjust with extra warm water to taste—then savor your matcha!
